Pointing out misstatements from powerful people who shape policy is not taking things “out of context,” it’s holding people accountable. Hundreds of journalists, politicians, and scientists who spoke with great certainty about both issues turned out to be dead wrong. That doesn’t mean that science is not to be trusted – but it does mean we can no longer hope to persuade skeptical people by simply proclaiming, “because the science is settled!” Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t. Point being, our current credibility crisis isn’t happening because powerful people were merely wrong about critical issues that affect us all – it’s happening because they were wrong, and certain, and unapologetic. That trifecta has had a devastating effect on the public trust, and for good reason. But this crisis of credibility is also happening because "cancel culture" is very real, as is the attack on free speech.

Why Generation X will save the web - Hi, I'm Heather Burns
But political power, now, rests in the hands of young professionals who are – rightfully – legislating to change the only internet they have ever known. The shitty corporate one.

Bye, Bismarck: 144 cities could lose status as metro areas
Under the new proposal, a metro area would have to have at least 100,000 people in its core city to count as an MSA, double the 50,000-person threshold that has been in place for the past 70 years. Cities formerly designated as metros with core populations between 50,000 and 100,000 people, like Bismarck and Sheboygan, would be changed to “micropolitan” statistical areas instead.

"The Sneetches" did not make the list of Seuss books which are considered to be immediate threats to society in the latest kerfuffle, but the SPLC has the book in its crosshairs for promoting a "race-neutral approach" which does not "encourage young readers to recognize and take action against social injustice".

Random comment:
Actually, you see Google hiring ever more people. My colleague has worked for Google and said on multiple occasions (it is even on video) you can barely get anything done using the systems and procedures they have in place. The infrastructure/ tools for anything they have programmed there was very high maintenance and almost begins to crumble under its own weight. It is almost like an oil tanker dragging its anchor - it is still rolling, but it sure isn't a sustainable development if what you want is efficient movement forward.

Hyperinflation Pushes Venezuela to Print 1M-Bolivar Bills
The country’s central bank posted a statement on its website Friday saying it would begin circulating the new 200,000, 500,000 and 1,000,000 bills to “fulfill the current economy’s requirements” without providing further details. The 1,000,000 note -- the largest in the nation’s history -- is worth only $0.53 cents.
