Cook Islands Olympians finally return home after Tokyo 2020 quarantine ordeal
Graham departed for the Olympics 13 weeks and three days ago, but due to lockdown in New Zealand, through which he and several Cook Islands Olympians transited on their return journey, he has been unable to get home. The CISNOC President conducted a two-week Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) in Christchurch upon arriving in New Zealand, before spending two months in lockdown in Auckland. He and the Cook Island cohort are in the process of conducting a further two weeks in MIQ at the Edgewater Resort and Spa in Rarotonga.

New NIH Statement on Misinformation about SARS-CoV-2 Origins
NIH wants to set the record straight on NIH-supported research to understand naturally occurring bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, funded through a subaward from NIH grantee EcoHealth Alliance. Analysis of published genomic data and other documents from the grantee demonstrate that the naturally occurring bat coronaviruses studied under the NIH grant are genetically far distant from SARS-CoV-2 and could not possibly have caused the COVID-19 pandemic. Any claims to the contrary are demonstrably false. ... Importantly, after an intensive investigation, agencies in the U.S Intelligence Community agreed that the virus was not developed as a biological weapon and most agencies assessed that SARS-CoV-2 most likely was not genetically engineered.

What the British are saying is they are now finding the vaccine interferes with your body’s innate ability after infection to produce antibodies against not just the spike protein but other pieces of the virus. Specifically, vaccinated people don’t seem to be producing antibodies to the nucleocapsid protein, the shell of the virus, which are a crucial part of the response in unvaccinated people

Properly measuring vaccine efficacy and risk reward
- if you are under 60 and healthy, the risk reward for these vaccines looks extremely poor.
- if you have had covid and recovered, the risk reward for these vaccines looks extremely poor.
- if you are both, the risk reward is outright absurd. there is no meaningful risk to mitigate in the first place.

Bonus: FDA Releases Pfizer Data on Kids Vaccines - by Emily Oster - ParentData
The sample is slightly smaller because they focus on kids without evidence of prior infection. Of these, 3 of the 1273 vaccinated children had evidence of COVID infection, versus 16 of the 663 placebo group. This translates to 90% efficacy. Which is so good! There were no documented infections in either group among children who had previous evidence of SARS-COV-2 infection.

2:00PM Water Cooler 10/22/2021 | naked capitalism
So how long does it take before 10% “excess” deaths becomes the new normal? (Adding: I know the data is bad. This is the United States. But according to The Narrative, deaths shouldn’t have been going up at all. Directionally, this is quite concerning. Needless to see, this is a public health debacle. It’s the public health establishment to take care of public health, not the health of certain favored political factions. Also adding: I like a death rate because it gives me a rough indication of my risk should I, heaven forfend, end up in a hospital. I should dig out the absolute numbers, too, now roughly 660,000, which is rather a lot.)

Our Anger Problem Is Making Me Angry - by Matt Labash - Slack Tide by Matt Labash
One thing that both me and my father understand, however, while much of the rest of the country has ceased to, is that even when we’re on different sides, we’re still on each other’s. No matter what. We are still family, and despite sometimes less-than-polite disagreements, we’re going to stay that way. Even after he reads this, all will (mostly) be fine, with the requisite ten or twenty mild objections. Yet I will happily see him this Sunday for dinner.

Three of Stock’s four fellow professors of philosophy at Sussex told me that they supported her academic freedom, but none would say so publicly, despite more than 200 UK academic philosophers signing an open letter supporting Stock’s and others’ “right to raise concerns on this matter”. The Oxford historian Timothy Garton Ash tweeted: “Whatever your views on her views on gender and sexual identity, every civilised person must condemn this harassment [and] intimidation of a woman on campus. It’s discrimination in the name of anti-discrimination, harassment in the name of anti-harassment.”

Facebook removed “Proud boy” post but was Ralphie from The Simpsons
a post that Facebook removed believing it to be an endorsement of a hate group, then restored realizing it was something quite different. “The content is an image of Ralph Wiggum, a character from the American TV show ‘The Simpsons.’ He is depicted saying ‘I am a Proud Boy!’ and apparently urinating in his pants,” the report says. Facebook, it seems, removed the post believing it was promoting the far-right group the Proud Boys who were linked to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Upon further review Facebook found “the content does not praise, support, or represent the Proud Boys”…

Crypto Slide The Result Of A "87%-Off" Binance Fat Finger | ZeroHedge
As Bloomberg notes, either someone (like an enterprising short who was deeply underwater and desperate for any trick to push momentum lower) was in a huge hurry to dump bitcoin (even if it meant taking a big loss on the trade), or we had a legitimate fat finger trade because at precisely 7:34am ET the price of Bitcoin appeared to plunge about 87% on Binance’s U.S. exchange, sinking to as low as $8,200 from around $65,000. According to Binance, volume on the exchange at 7:34am when the broader market was shocked by the "fat finger", was 592.8 Bitcoins, or just shy of $40 million at prevailing prices.
