  • Simulation of the Earth’s mobile radio-leakage as seen from nearby stars

Our preliminary results demonstrate that the peak power leaking into space from mobile towers is ∼4GW.

We demonstrate that the mobile tower leakage is periodic, direction dependent, and could not currently be detected by a nearby civilization located within 10 light-years of the Earth, using instrumentation with a sensitivity similar to the Green Bank Telescope.

  • Court: Man took leaf blower so brazenly, it wasn't burglary

the evidence “utterly failed to establish” that Bertram engaged in any “secret, sly, or clandestine conduct,” which must be proven to convict someone of burglary. With Wednesday's decision, the court also vacated an 8- to 12-year prison sentence that had been given to Bertram. The justices also vacated a 491-day sentence Bertram received for violating his probation in an unrelated case. They noted a prison term for violating probation can only be imposed for committing a felony, and in this case that matter was vacated.

  • The Untold Story of the Boldest Supply-Chain Hack Ever | Hacker News

the article repeatedly insinuates that the attack was traced to the Russian government, in fact it says it so often a casual reader could be forgiven for thinking they had proof. But a careful reading shows that they have absolutely no idea who did the SolarWinds hack. The link to the SVR is simply that Kevin Mandia has a "hunch" based on "pattern recognition" from his work in the 1990s. Not only is no proof presented, they don't even have anything that could be called evidence.

Writeups of hacks are always like this nowadays. It's the Russians. How do we know it's not the Chinese, or the Americans, or the British? We don't but if we say it's the Russians everyone will be on our side, so let's roll with that.
