The plane overran Runway 30, struck multiple vehicles and came to rest at a field next to the airport, Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said. A search-and-rescue operation was launched to retrieve the pilot and the co-pilot, who were trapped in the plane, and a technical rescue team conducted a “complex extrication” for people who were stuck inside the vehicles the plane hit, he said.

US Republicans revolt against Flock AI surveillance as backlash intensifies
-
"Why now? Why do you care about surveillance now but didn't care as much about it before?"
AI has changed everything. Imagine Flock cameras without AI. They could put cameras everywhere they wanted, and it would be essentially meaningless because they would never have the manpower to watch all the footage. So, in effect, the surveillance of those cameras was never actually there. Before AI, they only called upon footage if an actual crime was committed and the footage was believed to be relevant to that crime. Now, with AI, they can effectively watch all the footage, pull all the data they want from it, and compile a record of where every person has been for as far back as the data goes.

Women account for nearly all new US jobs in August
Because women tend to earn less than men and are likelier to hold multiple jobs, the figure suggests hiring is clustered in low-paying, contingent roles, meaning it’s not “necessarily a positive story for women overall,” Indeed Hiring Lab said. It also belies a trend of American mothers exiting the workforce.

If the AfD really is the extremist party that Der Spiegel implies it is, then something has gone terribly wrong with Germany’s fortified democracy. For the AfD is now—by far—the most popular party in the country; 28 percent of voters nationwide say they would vote for it in the next national election, ahead of the 21 percent who would vote for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which has (in coalition) ruled Germany almost continuously since Angela Merkel first won in 2005. In Sachsen-Anhalt, the old parties, even assuming they gain the votes, will be able to thwart the AfD only by, in effect, conspiring against it with what, to many Germans’ eyes, is an even more radical party: the Left Party, descended from the old Socialist Unity Party of the communist era, which increasingly focuses its wrath on Israel.
