A Mathematician Is Chasing Eclipses with Algorithms and Cameras
-
It's amazing how all these compounds originate in such diverse locations across the globe and ultimately end up in our homes, in our food and in our bodies. We barely notice where it comes from, we never stop to think, and yet an enormous supply chain operation is required to bring these things to us and every day it does, such is humanity's economic excellence. Of course not everyone is so fortunate as those of us with a supermarket around the corner, but hurrah for global logistics and its impressive ability to bring nourishment from across the planet. Every mug of tea is a freight distribution triumph, at least so long as fragile international systems permit, and how we'd miss them if disruption ever intervened. We are all made of where we live, but also half a world away.

Fatwa issued against Nike for ‘promoting polytheism’
Libya's top religious authority has declared a fatwa against Nike for promoting symbols associated "with polytheism". The Dar al-Ifta has issued a ruling that bans Muslims from buying, selling or wearing clothing bearing the sportswear brand. It said that wearing clothing displaying the logo amounted to the worship of more than one god, because Nike is named after a Greek goddess. The religious authority also accused Nike of supporting Israel, and called for a boycott of pro-Israel countries.

Can Democrats effectively abolish Electoral College after midterm wins?
they have enough electors to join and enact an existing agreement between 18 states and Washington, D.C. — a "compact" — to bypass the Electoral College. However, the compact would not abolish the Electoral College altogether. In addition, as we outline below, some experts say the move would require congressional approval.
-
Democrats have the votes to make the Electoral College obsolete
-
Democrats Are About to Throw Out the Electoral College Without Touching the Constitution
Under the Constitution, states have the authority to determine how they appoint their presidential electors. Nearly every state currently awards its electoral votes to the candidate who wins that state's popular vote. The compact would change that. States joining the agreement promise to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the national popular vote, regardless of which candidate wins their own state.

Study of Nearly 27,000 Men Is The Largest Yet on Tight Underwear And Sperm Quality.
wearing tight underwear really is linked to poorer sperm quality. For years now, men have been warned that close-fitting underpants may increase the temperature of their groin and possibly impact the health of their sperm. Compared with looser undergarments, for instance, tighter options were linked to 18 percent higher odds of producing less semen. Tight undies were also linked to 12 percent higher odds of having fewer motile sperm, 48 percent higher odds of having fewer normally shaped sperm, and 108 percent higher odds of having more sperm with DNA fragmentation or damage.
