Twitter and the War of Oligarchs | Compact Mag
Ganz implicitly expresses the sentiment, now widespread on the left, that capitalist oligarchs are good so long as their politics are progressive. “The main enemy will always be the tech capitalist reactionary oligarchy (Musk, Thiel, Andreesen),” he writes, “who constantly plot intrigues day and night against the organized power of the working class and its allies.” In this telling, non-“reactionary” oligarchs are to be praised as allies of progress and friends of workers.

They Said Foundation Couldn't Be Filmed, and It Still Hasn't Been
Goyer’s Foundation isn’t Asimov’s Foundation. It’s not an adaptation, and it’s so different that calling it “inspired by the works of Isaac Asimov” still feels like a stretch. Maybe it truly is impossible to bring this seminal work of science fiction into another medium, but other shows could still do a hell of a lot better job than this.

I've noticed that some computer models and Thunderbolt docks no longer come with headphone jacks, and that's because they can't get the fifty-cent chip to drive the analog audio output on a $300 device

The games Nintendo didn't want you to play: Tengen
Unable to reverse engineer the chip, Tengen convinced the United States Copyright Office to hand over the source code of the lockout chip, claiming it was necessary for a lawsuit. With the code in hand, Tengen could make their own clone with ease. And Tengen was going to sue Nintendo for antitrust violations, so they probably figured they could get away with it.

Operation Chucklefuck continues! Judge declines to jail two men accused of impersonating federal agents Archive link
"There's been no showing that national security information has been compromised," U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Harvey said. At the same time, Harvey said he does believe prosecutors have enough evidence to secure convictions in the case. Earlier on Tuesday, federal prosecutor Joshua Rothstein told the judge the FBI was forced to move before it was ready against the two after a Secret Service investigator for unclear reasons tipped them off that they were under scrutiny. In a hearing, Rothstein said the tip-off occurred on April 4 after the Secret Service launched an internal inquiry and placed four agents on administrative leave for accepting gifts from Taherzadeh and Ali.
