I'm Retiring From the Engineering Profession
I’m only 48 and not near the end of my career. So, I am not leaving my work, but I have already discontinued using the initials “PE” behind my name and I no longer refer to myself as a “professional engineer” since this dispute with the licensing board went off the rails. Those designations have no added value to me in the context of our work, and so by entering into retired status, I am giving up nothing I’ve not already voluntarily relinquished. What I hope I gain is some protection against future harassment by both the licensing board and people who would enlist the board to use the power of the state to come after me and Strong Towns.

Although most individuals with IQs ≤ 90 did not have a college degree, the rate at which they completed college had increased approximately 6-fold in men and 10-fold in women relative to rates in the previous generation. The magnitude of the college effect on occupational status, income, financial independence, and law abidingness was independent of IQ level,

On-Chain Forensics: Demystifying TerraUSD De-Peg
we refute the popular narrative of one “attacker” or “hacker” working to destabilize UST. The de-peg of UST could instead have resulted from the investment decisions of several well-funded entities, e.g. to abide by risk management constraints or alternatively to reduce UST allocations deposited into Anchor in the context of turbulent macroeconomic and market conditions.

The Energy/Food Crisis Is Far Worse Than Most Americans Realize
The Fed’s assumption that raising interest rates will somehow reduce current high energy costs is comparable to medieval physicians’ belief that leech bloodletting would cure diseases like tuberculosis.

The U.S. must commit to making South and Southeast Asia rich
people who hoped for a constructive U.S.-China relationship in the first half of the 21st century have now had their hopes conclusively dashed. The two countries may engage in ad-hoc cooperation on certain issues, as the U.S. and USSR did during the Cold War, but overall this is looking much less like a complex “frenemy” relationship and much more like Cold War 2.
