The Great Malformation | Theological Variations | Issues | The Hedgehog Review
This same retreat from shared physical spaces is observable even—or, rather, especially—in the inner sanctum of the home, where brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, parents and children, are increasingly found alongside each other yet absent to each other, cocooned in mesmerizing solipsism, ghosting even themselves and their own lives. The human race is on its way to becoming seven or eight billion perfect societies of one, each bound in what Stephen Colbert once called “solitarity” with other human beings, somewhere or another—who knows where—who themselves are busy absenting themselves from their families and homes. Where are the children being raised in such a world heading? What are they being urged to care about, cultivated to do and to be? What conception of the human good, if any, is implicit in, supported by, or coincident with this sort of upbringing?

Study: 75% of infants hospitalized with Covid-19 born to unvaccinated women
conducted from March 9, 2022, to May 31, 2023, ... Of the 377 case-patients, 82 (22%) were born to mothers who had received a COVID-19 vaccine dose during pregnancy, compared with 94 (28%) born to mothers of control patients.
Maternal vaccination status was ascertained among those who had received ≥2 mRNA vaccine doses, at least one of which occurred during pregnancy, or 1 viral vector vaccine dose followed by ≥1 mRNA vaccine dose during pregnancy.
153 (21%) were reported to have at least one underlying health condition, and 162 (23%) were born before 37 completed gestational weeks (preterm).
- as i read that, even among babies born premature and with health problems, COVID was not common, and mom's vaccination status doesn't seem to have had a large effect on its prevalence. The "75%" in the headline mystifies me; the split looks 47/53 to me.

Budget blowout keeps US economy going, until it doesn't - Asia Times
Almost one-quarter of every dollar spent in the United States for personal consumption today comes from a federal government check. Excess payments to Americans (above the long-term trend) amounted to $15 trillion during the past four years, more than half the annual output of the US economy.
