Reuters fact checks an online video taken from an Israeli concert—but not the music festival Hamas infiltrated last weekend—and goes on to debunk the claim that Israelis were "running for their lives." They weren’t—at the Oct. 4 concert depicted in the video—but Reuters makes no mention of the fact that hundreds of Israelis were actually slaughtered at a concert three days later.

The Decades-Long Travesty That Made Millions of Americans Mistrust Their Schools
For decades, the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project was a behemoth in American education. As many as 1 in 4 U.S. elementary schools used Calkins’ signature curriculum. But that number is dwindling as a growing chorus of cognitive scientists, learning experts, and parents—many amplified by education journalist Emily Hanford via her 2022 podcast Sold a Story—argue that the Calkins approach to reading is ineffective at best, actively harmful at worst, and a large part of why more than half of our country’s fourth graders aren’t demonstrating proficiency on reading exams.

Ending Junk Fees, the Most Annoying Thing in American Commerce
For instance, H. Rodgin Cohen of Sullivan and Cromwell, who was the most important bank lawyer during the 2008 financial crisis and recently brokered the sale of Silicon Valley Bank, recently argued that cutting credit card late fees from $30 to $8 is bad, because it could hinder “access to credit to underserved segments of the population.” In obnoxious lawyer-speak, what Cohen is saying is that if credit card companies can’t rip off poor people, then they won’t offer credit cards to poor people.

Lake City Ammo Plant Cancels All Commercial Contracts
Lake City, which currently supplies 30% of the civilian market for 5.56 ammunition... is owned by the US Government, but operated by Olin Winchester. Winchester produces ammo and sells it to the government.
If it’s true that they’ve cancelled their commercial contracts, this means the US Government is requiring more ammunition, enough that they can’t produce enough to sell the excess.

A big climate change stress test is coming for Amazon sellers and suppliers
Starting in 2024, Amazon will require suppliers to share their emissions data, set emissions goals, and report on their progress, the e-commerce giant said in its recently released sustainability report. With that move, it joins Microsoft, Walmart, Apple, and others in saying that suppliers must step up decarbonization efforts
